Creating an application Letter That wins every Time

The cover letter is your means of introducing yourself to your employer and as such should compliment your resume. Think of it as your way of adding your unique personal garnish – Some garnishes augment the visual impact of the plate, while others are selected specifically for the flavor they give.

In either case, give employers the opportunity to assess your capabilities without any supporting documents. 

  1. Check out the organization and delve into the job function.

Make a comparison between the posting , the company’s details and your qualifications and decide if you’re a good fit. Search for details that can be used to prove your compatibility with the position that you are applying for.

  1. Start with a header 

Ensure your NAME stands out at the top of your header and include your contact information. Skip a line then add 

The date,

Then, you will skip a line and write the name and title of HR Manager as well as the address of the company. 

  1. Greet the HR Manager    

 Introduce your letter with a standard greeting “Dear Mr/Mrs *Hr Manager*”

  1. Write a Memorable Introduction    

Write an introductory paragraph that includes the position you’re applying for and a statement about your enthusiasm in regards to the role and company.

  1. Tell your story

Try to display your knowledge and expertise without bragging. Include your previous experiences and explain how the skills you’ve acquired will help your future employer press ahead with their plans.

Try to pinpoint specific abilities, skills, expertise and traits which were listed in the job description and include them. Try to expand on specific stories or anecdotes that display your fitness for the role.

  1. Close with why you are the best fit for the job

You have to amplify the general impression you’ve made with the previous paragraphs and show that you’re not only going to satisfy the needs of the job but the needs of the company as well. One easy trick to this is to  put yourself in the manager’s shoes, then offer value that they can’t resist. This will make the hiring manager  intrigue as he/she starts reading your resume – Close with a call to action. 

  1. Sign off with a professional salutation 

Use a complimentary close, and then end your cover letter with your signature, handwritten, followed by your typed name. If this is an email, simply include your typed name after the complimentary close.
